Hello Simply Move Community, Â Spring Term 2024
We are wrapping up the Spring Break Challenge and the 8 Week Spring Term Course is starting next week. Yikes, time is going way too fast. Spring term will be a great time to explore variations of bridge pose and moving through some yoga flows at a bit faster pace to get the heart rate and blood pumping a little bit more than we usually do. All yoga flows will be either seated in a chair or using the chair for support while standing. The main focus will be trying to move through these flows and poses without any judgment. Seems simple enough, but I think we will find it more challenging than we think.Â

Bridge pose, also known as Setu Bandha Sarvangasana in Sanskrit (SET-too BUHN-dah Sahr-von-GAH-sah-nah), is a versatile pose. It can be practiced as a strengthening pose or a restorative pose. It is considered a gentler inversion compared to headstand or shoulder stand because it still brings the head beneath the heart, but without the need to support your whole body weight. Inversions are said to help with circulation, lower heart rate, and build self-esteem.Â

Recommended props: a yoga mat, 2 blocks, a sturdy chair, multiple blankets, and pillows or cushions.
