Hello Simply Move Community,   Summer Term 2023

Summer is almost here and I am ready to get outdoors and play. What are your plans for summer? Are you ready for some summer yoga? I’ve got some new plans for Summer Term yoga, I hope you can join me.

As always, thank you to everyone who joined the Spring Term. We had fun exploring moving through the same yoga flow with different intentions. Did you find a favorite? Was one more challenging than another? I hope you are seeing some increased strength, better range of motion, and less stress with a consistent practice.

Thank you so much for being part of the Simply Move Yoga Community!

Summer Term - A little different Focus:

I have been teaching yoga since 2014 and over the years not only has my practice changed, but my ideas of what yoga is all about has changed too. My first 200 hour yoga training focused a lot on alignment and the importance of moving the body a certain way to not cause injury. Each pose needed to be done in a certain way and needed to look a certain way. I followed this idea and other similar theories for years. As I continue to explore making yoga more accessible, I have learned that a lot of those theories don’t necessarily pertain or matter. Yoga is all about listening to your body and learning to move in ways that feel best for you. If a pose or stretch is painful then maybe you should back off a bit. If it is slightly uncomfortable in the moment, but goes away after, you are probably okay to continue. If it doesn’t bother you, then continue what you are doing. Our bodies and joints can move in all different directions and I do not think limiting movement (unless it is painful or doctor prescribed) is beneficial. This summer let's gather together and move our bodies without worrying about whether we are doing a pose “correctly,” not worrying about how we look, not worrying about if we can do it like social media shows. Summer Term will include some fun yoga flows to get the heart pumping, poses and simple exercises to build tone in the arms and shoulders, and conclude with a nice relaxation to help relieve stress. As always, I will show you many different options (including chair options) to do the pose so you can choose what feels best for you. As we move together I encourage you to focus on listening to your body and taking your cues from there. Yoga is about turning inward and finding peace within, not worrying about micromovements or how you look.
