Simply Move Newsletter - Spring 2023

Hello Simply Move Community, Spring Term 2023
Happy Spring! Thank you to everyone who joined the Winter Term. We did a lot of boat pose variations and I hope your core is feeling a bit stronger. We also learned 7 different variations of child’s pose. My goal was to offer many options so you could find the best variations for you. Making yoga more accessible for your body is what it is all about.

Thank you so much for being part of the Simply Move Yoga Community
Spring Term Focus - Flows and Tree Pose:
We will be changing things up a bit for Spring Term. Our main focus will be on yoga flows, moving smoothly and steadily from one pose to the next. Doing yoga flows heats the body up quickly and can help build endurance. Changing the intention while doing a flow can create many different benefits as well. A slow and steady intention can help tone muscles and make one feel grounded, while a fast and steady intention can build endurance and increase energy. We will play with setting different intentions in the Spring Term.

I thought it would be nice to focus on tree pose to celebrate the changing of the season. We will practice many different ways to do Tree pose (Balasana in Sanskrit). You may have learned some variations of Tree pose in our past terms, but it is always helpful to review and practice some more. Tree pose not only helps with balance, but also increases core strength, stretches the hips, and helps with attention and focus.
Spring Term classes will begin the week of April 10th.
Recommended props: a yoga mat, 2 blocks, 1 sturdy chair, multiple blankets, and pillows or cushions.

Fundraiser Update:
My very first fundraising event was a success! As you may know, I am always trying to find ways to make my yoga classes more accessible. I started selling T-shirts and hoodies as a fundraiser. I am slowly building up a supply of yoga props to have available during events for those who may not be able to afford them. I was fortunate enough to have yoga straps donated by Vega Gymnastics and am very grateful. I sold enough shirts during my first fundraiser to purchase 10-15 yoga mats.

Another common barrier to coming to a yoga class is affordability. In the future I hope to offer scholarships for those who can not afford classes and also offer yoga classes/workshops at a lower cost.
I have a new fundraiser and shirt design coming soon. Here is a little sneak peek at the design. All the proceeds go to purchasing more props and raising funds to create scholarships. I will send out information when this new fundraiser begins. In the meantime, feel free to stop by my website anytime. My “Think Good Thoughts” shirts are always available for purchase and I will be adding the new design soon.

Thank you again to all who purchased during my first fundraiser.
Help Spread the Word! I have 2 New Offerings!
YOGA IN THE CLASSROOM

Did you know that yoga can help kids with transitions and regulating big emotions? Could your school or classroom benefit from some yoga tools to help regulate emotions and smooth transitions? A simple yoga program could be just the thing your kids need to learn to listen to their bodies and advocate for themselves. As a teacher or school administrator you will learn activities that help calm the nervous system, prepare for focused activities, help minimize nervousness, help get the wiggles out, get kids moving in a more productive way, and can also help you when you need a moment to regain focus.
I have been teaching Yoga Calm curriculum for 10 years working with all ages from toddlers to preschoolers to high school students. I have even used it with Senior yoga classes. All ages can benefit and enjoy it.
Let me show you a few yoga poses, yoga activities, and breathing activities that you can start using in your classroom today. Contact me for more information. https://www.simplymoveyoga.org/offerings/yoga-in-the-classroom
CORPORATE YOGA

Does your business or place of employment have a wellness program? Could your workplace benefit from a yoga program to help with productivity or help relieve stress? I have experience working in multiple settings teaching groups how to use yoga in their daily lives. Some typical offerings are weekly classes; lunchtime yoga breaks, and desk breaks, or choose 1-time workshops on breathing, desk yoga breaks, and stress reducing activities. Contact me directly to discuss your individual needs and see how I can help bring yoga to your workplace.
